Thought I would share with you the lesson plans that I created for our Language Arts in my kinder classroom. I am using the 1st Grade Power Pix and the NEW LESSON PLAN model that we learned in the webinar on Thursday. Please feel free to use! Note: while my lessons seemed detailed they are not as detailed as the actual lesson simply because there is a lot of modeling, reteaching, modeling, and such...as they look it would only take me 5 minutes to complete the lesson but trust me...this is a 40 minute lesson!

Hope you enjoy!

Edit: Hey I know that the Noun lesson is first but it should be after the Sentence Lesson...just typed them out of order! LOL!

Thanks. I'm reviewing these topics next week, especially complete sentences and I liked your wording for what a sentence is. Great job!

Thanks for sharing. It's great to see the lessons in writing. Do all your lesson plans follow this format? It's an awesome plan. I'm going to try it next week!

riskinder/Farrah,

I am very excited about the new lesson plan format - it makes so much sense. Have you considered how to use it in a mini lecture format? For example if the lesson is in science or history, would you use the same five steps, question, answer, expand and give examples, evaluate, Critical thinking sentence frames?

What are you thoughts on using this format for less discrete pieces of information(not Noun, Verb, Sentence) that are typically found in other subjects or higher grades?

I am looking at how to use the format over all subjects in all grades K - 12. As an administrator I have not personally applied it - only got real excited when I saw it and am including it in my training program for the faculty.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,
I just helped some upper grade teachers develop some lesson plans using the 5 step format. An 8th grade Social Studies teacher was designing a lesson where students were to make connections between Watergate and Impeachment. A PE teacher was following the format to teach the correct procedure for dribbling a basketball. A 6th grade language arts teacher was using the same template to design a lesson revolving around plot. These lessons have more examples, and more info in the middle than the wonderful kindergarten lessons posted by Farrah (RiseKinder). Once a teacher understands the 5 steps and how they build on one another, the creative juices begin flowing and great lessons are the outcome. I had teachers of the same grade level sit together and brainstorm ideas, then they worked together to create lessons, and made copies to share with one another. The beauty of the 5 step template is that it is a framework, and teachers can build on it regardless of grade level or subject area.

Deb,

That is wonder news! Is there any possibility of getting a copy of some or all of those lesson plans? Some real life examples would be very helpful with the Vietnamese teachers (I work in Vietnam) who are not familiar with the way we do lesson plans - and certainly not how WBT does it.

Of course if the teachers don't want their names or school on their plan that is fine. Just the process is what we need to see.

Thanks,
Jason

Fellow WBT's,

I'm working on lesson plans. My students will be reading a story from our anthology and I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate the 5 step format. I have and will use the crazy professor reading activities which the students love. Just wondering if there's something else I'm missing! Thanks for your help. Love all the blogs...they are GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!!!!!

Love this! I learned the "sentence" part of your lesson at the conference in Victoria but I love how you have added so much more! Great Job!

Thank you for posting the lessons. It really helped. I was struggling with the critical thinking component.
