There are only 2 levels in Super Speed Math. Do the kids never need to go beyond this?

Also, do they need a fresh addition page each time they do Super Speed Math? I am confused!

Always start with level 1 and get the class pumped to start the second level (whenever you wish). I have used SS math for many years and haven't found the need to for a next level....there is, however, the Gnarlie page that has all math (add, subtract, multiplication, and division), which is fun for the upper grades that are proficient.

As for the pages, I'd put them in page protectors (run them back to back and put them in a sheet protector. That way, you only have to make a set once. Using the dry erase markers for the recorder is a good idea as well.

I do exactly the same as Jay. In fact, they keep their protected copies in their desks. This way we waste less time giving the copies out.

Best,

I want to try super speed numbers but I am a bit confused. If I remember reading the directions correctly the students are taking turns saying the numbers? Do I give each student a copy of the level 1 page and start from there? As I type this the questions seem so basic, like I should know the answer - but I'm a bit confused. I want to try this with my first grade students that really are not ready for first grade - I teach in an inner city school where students can't be retained in K - 3!! So this group is very behind and I thought this would be a fun game for them to play to help build that foundation! Any advice is welcome!!

SuperSpeed Numbers is a different program than SuperSpeed Math ... you're probably talking about the former. And so, yes, the students take turns saying the numbers ... to conserve paper you can have two students share papers. One is the "pointer" but both take turns. "Helpsies" is encouraged ... if one student doesn't know a number, the other student says it. Thus, you should divide your class so that the stronger students are paired with the weaker ... the pairs read the numbers as fast as they can for a minute and then circle the number they finished with ... then they start again, with a different person starting and try to beat their record for another minute. If they beat their record, encourage them to cheer. The next time they play, all record breaking teams can start one line down from their previous starting point ... thus, they will keep moving through the list. Hi anyone!! I've set a goal this year of taking on Whole Brain Teaching strategies. I was reading about Superspeed math but can't seem to find the actual game instructions. It doesn't come up on the downloads.

We'll get that fixed shortly but until then I've attached it here. I don't know if it will work, but we'll try. Chris
