Hi all,

Started using WBT this week for first time. Going great but have quick question. I know in Superspeed 1000 (English), that when pupils reach zingers, they start +5 words next time (meaning they progress through the booklet). However, when doing the Maths, hwo do children progress? E.g. if they start at 0+0 each time, they will never get any further than say 2+3.... What am I missing??!!

In SuperSpeed Math, one student answers the questions and the other student checks the answers ... they are not setting a team record but attempting to set and break individual records. Each player gets two tries. If a player breaks a record the second time, then the player can start one row down from where he/she started. This way, students move forward through all the problems, at their own pace.

I'm a bit confused also. I've seen a video of a class playing SS Math however I couldn't tell what each child was saying. Does one person say just the answer or the problem and the answer? And what is the other child saying? Do they just repeat what the other said and say the correct answer if the first child gets it wrong?

With the Superspeed math, the child going through the problems is doing it on their own. The other is checking their answers. They need to say the whole problem. If the child makes a mistake, the other child corrects them and says the whole problem correctly. The first child must then repeat the problem and answer correctly. Here's an example:

1st child: "Zero plus zero equals zero, Zero plus one equals one, Zero plus two equals five..."

2nd child: "NO- Zero plus two equals two."

1st child: "OH! Zero plus two equals two." [then the student continues on until the time is up]

Hope that helps:)

We want kids to move down the chart but your right, how are they going to get through the whole list if they keep starting back at A1? I just want to clarify what Biffle said earlier...if a child stops somewhere in row three, they will need to start in row three the next time. They start a row after whatever row they have totally completed in the alloted time. The theory is, there is no need for them to repeat the problems that they can do easily.

Excellent. That makes perfect sense. Thanks for clarifying. This is such a wonderful "movement" and can't wait to get started with SS Math. I use several of the other strategies and my students, co-workers, administrators, and I LOVE it!
