Hello all,

I have an aspiring 10-year old teacher in our Room A108 that has a big interest in choosing to be a teacher as a future career. So I put her to work! I'm having her teach Room A108's 5th graders using WBT (not ALL the techniques..but some of the basic techniques) to lead the class in critically thinking about sample pieces of writing projected on the board.

She thinks it's great fun! And they are learning too! I told I'm giving her every opportunity possible here in 5th grade, because no other grade and no other teachers will give her those opportunities. My goal is to change the lives of these kids and inspire them to become great things.

Yep! That's us..Room A108 5th grade here at Carberry Intermediate. I e-mailed the parents, they wanted to watch her teach. I also made a DVD for the parents!

No other teacher would allow students to teach the class like that. I like to nurture possible careers.

I think it is very cool that you gave her that opportunity and that the other kids are so receptive! What a gift you have given her! Do you think other students will want to try out "student teaching" as well?

Yeah, there are others in here that want to jump up and do it. But I don't allow just anyone. Basically I give them a small teaching assignment to work with, then if they can do that much, then I give them the big assignment to lead the class in critically thinking about writing pieces.

Before J.L. there was another.. but I told her she was a bit too shy still, so she needs to practice. J.L. (the one video taped) already plays teacher at home. She does WBT clapping patterns to imaginary "kids" at her home; and then disciplines these "kids" for talking in line. So once she told me that, I had her just jump up to the front and start teaching, because I knew she could.

This has wonderful possibilities! If she is interested, show her some of our videos and then have her duplicate, or give her own version, of one of the lessons ... using "class-yes" and "teach-okay" with a bit more of an uptempo feel ... we'll post the video on our site and elsewhere ... this amazing student could influence kids and teachers across the country ... we could see her some day on Oprah ... seriously!
