Do you start with the Class-Yes and then work your way across a certain period of time? Should I incorporate the Class-Yes on the same day as any other strategies? When should the scoreboard be brought in?

I teach fifth grade reading and language arts (three sections of it in the day). I'm going to try the Class-Yes tomorrow and see how it goes. I'm having a hard time coming up with rewards for the scoreboard.

Remember the first day , at least, you are going to want to be the winner of the score board. You can make it a tight race if you have a good class, but set that in place from the beginning.

The rewards for the scoreboard can be both free and simple. How about 1 minute of free talk time at the end of the period? How about king of the hill or an academic game for 3-5 minutes...The beauty of the scoreboard is that you can decide...YOU are in control!

Free talk time is not an option for my school. Any other ideas? I was thinking of having each point represent a minute of something, but I am not sure what.

A favorite for my kids is games. You could have each point won equal one minute of Mind Soccer. They can cash them in as soon as they get five total minutes won for a five minute game.

Another effective one is free seating day. I have them in assigned seats. If they beat me on Monday they can sit where they want on Tuesday, and only on Tuesday. The understanding is that they must be willing to work, or I can move them as I need to for the work to keep going.

You can use the Scoreboard Game as a reward only setup. If they win they get one of the cool things listed, if they lose it just means they do not get a chance to do the cool thing that would have been their prize.
