The Happy/Frowny chart was working great in the room, but I was having trouble maintaning control in the hallway and during restroom breaks. So I picked up a student white board and brought our happy/frowny chart along with us! I've never had such easy/quiet/stress free reswtroom breaks! I love it :-D

Isn't it amazing the power of a little and ! As time goes on get them away from that and just remind them of it as you leave the room. Great story and good idea.

I completely agree with Chris!! If only I had know about this my first year of teaching!!!! Whenever people come into observe me they are always impressed by the power the scoreboard has in the classroom. It is such a basic concept, but it really drives the students. They especailly love when they are winning! I'm going to have to try this mobile scoreboard. Sounds like you solved your problem. What a great idea!

What I love is that there is no more

"Please stop talking"
"Make sure your sitting crisscross"
"Turn your voices off"
"Stop playing at the sink"
etc...

I simply make a mark on the board and without a word they know exactly what it means.

And we add to the learning experience by writing a greater than or less than sentence to compare the score.

I love WBT!
