I am glad I had a healthy breakfast this morning. I needed the energy and clarity of thought it provided me. I am very comfortable teaching on the fly, but it was challenging coming up, on the spot, with gestures for least common denominator, changing fractions, reducing answers, and the many other concepts required to add fractions with unlike denominators. By breaking the skill into a four-step process, I was able to instruct using Whole Brain Teaching. The students remained enthusiastic throughout the lesson, and they displayed much more confidence than I am used to seeing when introducing this very tedious mathematical process.
