Hi all,
I am from the Philadelphia, PA area. I teach in Charter High school in Northeast Philadelphia. We are a Title 1 school, and I have been trying out WBT methods this past semester with my ninth graders. (I teach 9th grade Physics First). I have definitely had some successes, but also have had some challenges. In particular, I've been having difficulty figuring out just exactly how to use the ScoreBoard to motivate whole-class behavior vs. individual students. Some of what I've read in the various online ebooks seems conflicting in this regard, and I'm hoping for some clarification. (My "good" students feel unjustly "punished" when I make "teacher" marks for the bad behavior of the few "bad apples"....) Along these lines, I'm hoping to learn more about how to better help my behaviorally-challenged students as well as how to develop student leaders....
Despite my setbacks, I figure I just need more practice, and a little help from more experienced WBT teachers. The online books on the site are terrific, but nothing beats face-to-face meetings when it comes to sharing ideas....
See you soon!
