TOPIC: WBT and a sub.

WBT and a sub. 11 months ago #6250

Well my class of Wibbles (my students) had their first sub. I was at a staff development class on campus. She said they did great BUT the leaders had to say, class, class, class a lot . The young sweetheart was fresh from the credential program and I am well- old, so I laid some teacher know how on her. Go to the web and look for whole brain teaching!

Annette,

You are making me both confident and nervous. About half of my international staff this year at our two largest campuses have one year or less classroom experience and over half have never met each other. That your freshly minted sub was able to do the class with no training in WBT is encouraging - that she had to rely on your well trained student leaders is definitely making me nervous.

I certainly would feel a lot more confident with a better seasoned team - hopefully I am just nervous for nothing. I trust that with enough training and encouragement things will go well.

All that said, I am delighted to hear that a sub with no real experience and no WBT training actually survived the classroom with everything working pretty much correctly. You should be very proud of your students! Not many classes across America can boast that the students support and train the subs!

Annette and Jason-

I had different subs on different occasions throughout the year, and thanks to using WBT in my classroom, they had no problems. Some had experience in teaching, as they were retired teachers, and others just subbed to get a paycheck and had no real interest in teaching. Both types of subs left glowing reports on the how the class ran and how the students participated and listened. I had class leaders for the rules, Class/Yes, Teach/Okay, and even a student leader who led our Word Work lesson for the day!

The subs always reported that Rule 5 was their favorite...wonder why!

I've never had such good reports from subs in previous years, but I, myself, had not fully implemented WBT in my classroom before this past school year either! There is a lot to be said for getting the students more involved in their learning and they're having fun while learning too!

Hope this is encouraging!

Thanks,

Staci,

Encouraging? Staci this more than encouraging, it is fantastic! It is also a road map on the power of student engagement. Thanks,

Jason

Jason-

I'm so glad that you found it encouraging! I think it is awesome what you're doing in Vietnam! Keep working hard. You'll see the results!

Deb-

Thanks for your guide for subs. I will definitely use it this year!

Deb,

Thank you for the concise sub information sheet! It will be an awesome addition to my sub folder for next year!

Staci,

I also found that my sub reports from this past year were a lot better than previous years. I even had a few leave me notes that they were going to try and implement WBT into their future assignments.

Blessings Deb, these are worded far better than mine. I don't know what came over me but I just went on and on and on. To excited I guess, that's what WBT does to one. Anyway these are much more to the point thank you for sharing.

Deb, thanks so much for this file. I just modified it for use in my music classroom (multiple 30-45 min classes each day). You ROCK! Oh yeah!
