Hi everyone, I love whole brain teaching and have done it for the past two years of my career. I just found out this year I am going to have a SPANISH class (kindergarten). I am having a difficult time thinking about how I can translate the responses in spanish. For example I have hands and eyes (manos y ojos) but the class-yes is a bit tricky for me. I like changing it, for example, classity class-yessity yes or classup classup-yessup. I notice with spanish you don't really have that flexibility, clase-Si. So, if you are a spanish teacher I will love to know how you adapt and translate whole brain teaching into your classroom. What do you teach them to respond..Thank you

Hey there,

Oh I loved doing the class-yes in Spanish this past year with my kinders! We although I couldn't do the classity classity stuff and word play I could change the tone of the clase-Si and the number of times...clase, clase, clase--Si Si Si! Get it? I also used some other Spanish words to do opposites...like if I said a word in Spanish and we were working on opposites, they would say the opposite word in Spanish back...for example,

Teacher: caliente,caliente

Class: frío, frío

This was so much fun! I can only imagine the use of class-yes to review core concepts in Spanish! You could also say something in English/Spanish and have them repeat in the opposite language!

Farrah just gave me an interesting idea... my class could have fun learning class-yes in the various languages spoken in our class! Spanish, Kurdish, Vietnamese, Bengali, Laotian, etc...

AnisA,
I also vary my tone of voice. I could say it high pitched, or very low. My class likes it when I say Claaaaaaaaass (starting out high and dropping my voice down low). You can also vary the speed and volume of your the class-yes.
Sometimes we are just goofy and say:
"My wonderful, wonderful class!" and they reply "My wonderful, wonderful yes!"
And there is always, "1 + 1" and they reply "1 + 1 = 2"
There are just so many variations. You'll find all sorts of fun ways to use the class-yes in Spanish!
