TOPIC: Superspeed math

Superspeed math 8 months ago #8225

When playing superspeed math, do the students say just the answer, or do they say the problem and the answer?

Remember, if they make a mistake, their partner corrects and they go back two. They love the game!

Ooh...I've never heard the "go back two" rule. Dang. It'll be hard to introduce that now that they're going full-steam already.

Nah! Just tell them that you are so excited that they have master the basic level of the game, and that they are now ready to move on to the more advanced form of play- the Challenge Level!

Compare it to leveling up on a video game and most of them will get it right away.

Just to add another note about the "go back 2" rule...have them practice it before you actually start SS math. I didn't practice it this year, and had to stop and practice. I found that my students needed to hear and see what it would look like if their partner made a mistake.

Once they'd seen it, they immediately took ownership and it's run smoothly.

Good advice, Tiffany! My 2nd graders spent a lot of time rehearsing the problems with a partner just to get the hang of it. No pressure and excellent review after starting the new school year. We call it, "Warming Up" before the race!! What a moment when the timer was set!
