TOPIC: LOVING life in teacher heaven!

LOVING life in teacher heaven! 8 months ago #8277

It's been a couple of weeks since I've checked in, what with school starting and my life going bananas. But it's ALL GOOD!!!! I LOVE WBT. My kids love Teach/OK. They love CLASS/YES! They LIVE for the scoreboard at the end of the day! That said, I think I've become too cozy with just these elements and need to add on. What should I do next??? I have 12 amazing 2nd graders in a small Christian school. I want to print out power pix and use those. Guess I need to get my rear in gear! WBT has absolutely jump started my teaching this year.

Reviewing and gesturing the 5 classroom rules are always fun, and of course more gestures for everything taught.....and mirroring.

Definitely add the PowerPix. I added them this year to my classroom (and I teach 9th grade and they're still great). I start off my period with a written warmup (bellwork),then go right to my PowerPix for quick vocab review. I'll pick a row for the 1's, and one for the 2's (about 5 terms each) and have them Teach-OK. I give my first real test tomorrow, but with all this repetition, they HAVE to do well on it...

Jen,
we met in LA in June. I'm glad all is going so well with you and WBT! I'm eager to hear how your kids do on the test - I bet they do great!

Sounds like you're off to a sweet start! Those power pix help so much with my students' retention.

I struggled some at the beginning of this WBT journey 6 weeks ago, but I'm seeing persistance pay off. I can actually visualize teacher heaven in the near future. (Can I really be saying that?) Today seemed like a dream compared to a few weeks ago. My fatigue level has gone down, and my enthusiasm level has gone up. We've come a long way, baby!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Power Pix it is!
Funny story: We had been doing Teach/OK for the class rules and that was it. So when I tried to use it for something else the other day, the kids turned to their partners and immediately starting teaching the rules instead of what I wanted them to teach. It was hilarious! Of course I had to backtrack and start over. Live and learn.

WBT is Teacher Heaven!! Power Pix offer an awesome way to teach the Standards while having FUN! Imagine that! I teach 2nd grade also, and use Mirror as a way to monitor for student engagement and gesture accuracy while introducing and practicing each Pix. It offers a way for everyone to feel secure in attempting new material! Mirror is another way to grab the Class back to attention after announcing Class! Class! Nancy Stoltenberg WBT Intern 2011-2012

Nancy Week 7 down! Power pic wall is loaded up and we are already to submit, first quarter grades in a week! Where has the time gone? I am amazed by all the growth I have seen in my class this far! With Wbt teaching techniques my little darlings were using compare/contrast brain toys describing declarative and interrogative sentences!!:

Yes to the Power Pix Wall!! It's an awesome wall of instruction. Heather, this quarter IS flying quickly! Today was the day of THE BECAUSE SLAPPER! It was awesome to see students of all levels participating and creating complex sentences with adders! Oh, yeah!
