I am a 1st grade teacher who will try SuperSpeed Math (addition) for the 1st time tomorrow. I have two questions...the student who is solving the problem, does he/she say the problem and the answer and on level 1, how does it help the children to go across and simply respond, '0,1,2,3,4,..."

Thank you!

Nevermind! I found the answer!!!!!

Huxteach1, I have found Super Speed Math to be extremely helpful with my sixth grade class...yes sixth grade! To me it's simply amazing that they come to sixth grade not knowing those facts. If I had the power and influence like an administrator I'd force teachers to utilize it in younger grades. After a couple months of super speed my students have all but mastered their facts. Setting personal goals is huge for students. I love it because it fosters personal growth.

Even though you already found the answer to your questions let me add this...Super Speed Math helps student identify the patterns in mathematics as well as increasing their fluency of the facts (hence saying the fact and the answer). I always say to primary teachers...how can I expect students to complete 3 and 4 step problems in sixth grade if they can't get past the basic facts. I'm not a "crutch" guy...I hate tricks for memorizing facts. Super Speed Math allows students to increase math fluency by...dare I say it...actually using the facts! Super Speed allows students to set high expectations for themselves...higher expectations...higher achievement!

I have the same question. Do you have the one student read the problem, then answer it? How does the checker keep track of wrong answers? thanks!

One more question about Superspeed Math...students are to mark on the paper where they left off and the "teacher" is supposed to mark the facts the "student" answered incorrectly...well, are you continuously making copies for the students to use? We are limited on copies...just wondering...how do your students manage this...remember, we are 1st grade:P

Thanks!

My students don't mark incorrect answers, they just verbally correct the other student. Since the "teacher" has to interject and correct it slows down the time.

I copied a class set of each game and laminated them so that they don't get destroyed!

When using SuperSpeed Math you want it to take as little time as possible. Laminate the sheets or put them in sheet protectors, and give the students a white board marker. Even in 1st grade with some training, this should work. They just put a dot next to the problem that the student missed. When its over they subtract the ones they got wrong and they have their personal record.

I have found that marking their record on the sheet gets confusing and usually wiped off. I have a chart that I made forom an Excel spreadsheet that they each fill in. You may need to modify that for your 1st graders...you may have to keep track for them. The great thing is that it's all flexible to fit your needs.
