Hi,
I have finished reading the super speed 100 book and I'm willing to use it with my students but I wanna ask a question concerning it . I'm teaching grade 1 so do they have to reach level 100 at the end of the year or it's not necessarily? means that they could complete reaching the levels in upper years . And should I make a limit for them for example I'll say that I want my students to reach level 50 this year in order that they will complete next years. Please advice me

I vote that you let them get as far as they possibly can. For example, I am a third grade teacher and 23 out of 25 kids in my class have completed super speed 1000 successfully. I started doing super speed at the beginning of the year with 100 and the kids feel in love with it. I vote you not put a cap on their words but a quota that they must meet. I would challenge your students to finish 100 and go beyond. I hope this helps....I love superspeed and have seen the magic happen in my classroom this year. I had 8 students in my class who could not read at the beginning of this school year. Now, I have 25 students who enjoy reading and continue to amaze me with their skills.

I agree to not capping Superspeed. I teach an American curriculum to Chinese students and was surprised when I started superspeed 100 in one of our centers this semester. Most of the students were already around level 50 and have progressed since.

Yes Zaazooaa. The students shouldn't be forced to advance to the next level before they can finish the previous one I think. I do it as a center activity and allow the students to reach their own milestones. If you see that there is that large of a gap you can spend some time helping the slower students advance through it. I started halfway through the year, so I was surprised that most of the students were already at a higher level than I prepared for. These are ESL learners using the same material as a US first grade student. Keep at it. They will enjoy Superspeed 100.
