I use a classroom management system I made up where all my students sit in groups of 4, and each group gets points for participating, answering questions, etc. A certain number of points lead to stamps, and stamps lead to prizes. I was wondering if it is a good idea to combine the scoreboard (Teacher vs. Students) with my existing system, this way, students still work in groups (which means they encourage each other to speak more, etc.) I can award more individual effort, and still effectively teach the whole class.

BTW, I am a middle school teacher in Japan. I see each of my 14 classes once a week.

This is a common question..."can I integrate the two? Mine with WBT?" I would say continue what you are doing with your groups, but add a whole class element with an overall reward for the class.

This will help them amp it up and add new energy!

I was going to say just what Chris did. It's fun to reward points by group, but when you do it whole group as well, you can always keep everyone on their toes. There is usually a group or two who has a person that just continually holds them back from getting points, so the whole class scoreboard would give everyone the chance to earn something!

Did you say each of your 14 classes?!?! How many preps do you have? Would it be possible for the group to earn a point for the students and they get the "cheer"? That way it is Teacher vs Students.
