Hello everyone!

Well, this summer I'm going to be working in a day camp for kids ranging from ages 6-12. The Class-Yes sounds like it can really be helpful when trying to gather the group together and get their attention, but they're obviously not going to be a "class." Any other ideas for words I can use?

Rhyming words would be preferable, that way I can play around with the ending and make it more fun and fresh for the kids.

Our after school program uses some of the WBT techniques for managing their sometimes very large groups. They are using class-yess, hands and eyes, as well as many they make up on the fly. For example, anything they say in that sing song voice the kids chant back. line it up..they repeat..log off...they repeat...pencils out...they repeat. It is a simple way to work with groups of multi-aged kids if your directives change fequently and you have different groups throughout the day. I have yet to hear them teach oksy, but there is a place for that too!

Hi!

You could start out by saying, "Campers!" and them replying "Yes!" Here are some attention getters that I have been enjoying:

Loyal Subjects Yes, Your Highness

Children Yes, Mommy

Team Yes, Coach

Land Lubbers Arrrgghh, Matey

Yakety Yak Don't Talk Back

Les Eleves Oui, Madamoiselle

Hope these help and give you a good start! Don't forget to say each phrase with dramatic voices to match!!!!

Inuiti,

You have lots of calls and responses. Did you introduce them slowly during the year and use one over and over until you sensed that it needed spicing up? I am personally tired of saying Class and all its variations. I am going to switch to another,,perhaps Royal subjects...I like that one.

Now that your class knows several, do you mix it up?

Thanks,
Karen Chavez

They might really enjoy the Royal subjects right now with all the talk on TV about a Royal wedding coming up.

Hi kfchavez,

I did introduce them slowly at first and used each one as long as interest held. Then I went back to Class/Yes for awhile. Now I am doing a combination of all of them. Here are a few things I have found:

1. Getting the kids to use them works wonderfully. I'll choose one student who will do their own version of the Class/Yes. They love listening and participating when one of them is in charge.
2. When my students make up one of them they love to answer to it. For example, they made up Yo Gaba Gaba and Whobajouba. They really love those ones.
3. The more I like it the better they respond!

Have fun!!
