I spoke with my district's communication director and informed me that we are an 'opt out' school which means we opt you in unless you tell us otherwise. I was advised to send home a letter to parents letting them know what I planned on doing. I will copy and paste an English and Spanish version for anyone to use with their students if your district policy is the same. I'm very much looking forward to video taping!

Dear parents,
I am writing to inform you of my intent to video tape some lessons and upload them to a website to be viewed by other educators around the world. I will upload videos to my blog which is www.wbtwithharding.blogspot.com/ This is to help myself as well as other educators.
If you are okay with this then you do not need to take any action. If you are not okay with this please send me a note by __________ and I will make sure your child does not appear in the video.

This is almost exactly like my media release. We already have one on file with the school office because of media releases in the paper and such...however, I wanted a personal one because I would be sharing these as a teacher...not for the school...It was just a simple form with the intent like yours and I had them sign and date it...even if they were ok with their child being in it...kinda the "I didn't say you could" cover....so if a parent ever questioned it..(and I did have one AFTER they were unhappy with a school policy) come back and say "I didn't give her permission" I can pull the contract and show...yes you did but from now on your child will not be in the videos....guess this precautionary attitude comes from being married to a lawyer for 10 years. LOL!
