I had a thought today as I watched a couple of really experienced (and bossy) girls be class leaders.

They helped correct a "frequent flyer" on rule 2, until they said "I think he needs a practice ticket" they were about to take control when I stopped them and said I would decide when he broke the rule --times and he's on practice time.

Would one ever let the class leaders go this far? Just gotta know for my own safety.

I have had a few get a little big for their britches however, like you I just nipped it in the bud and we had a little session on what a class leaders responsibility was! This pretty much fixed it! I think it is normal...they want to be like us soooooooo bad...they even go home and play school and pretend to be us!

I agree. I saw this starting in my class and decided that I wouldn't allow them to work with the practice cards. I do allow them to use the scoreboard; however, using rule 5, I always retain the right to reverse their decision.

I have class leaders and then rule leaders. For example, my rule 2 leader is responsible for rule 2, however they do not mess with the practice cards. They will simply say "Rule 2" when they hear someone talking a lot without permission to speak. I haven't yet had any of my leaders try to take over the practice cards though! I agree with you, Farrah, and Jon about just nipping it in the bud and letting the class know that you handle practice cards! Good discussion though and way to get that out there. I'm sure that other teachers have had similar experiences or will sometime in the future!

Thanks you everyone I knew you'd come through. It has made a huge difference with the class leaders, but as you said Farrah they get a little big for their britches. Some of that comes with WBT because they know the "drill" and they know WHO is the one always breaking a rule.

On a happy note, we are still using the scoreboard only and giving out "practice" tickets when needed and this is only for 3 students. I know this from my weekly chart. One student is new and the other has been an issue all year. Yup, time to move him to an independent.
Well, keep the "love" coming my way we've got until July.
