I teach second grade in thailand and try to incoprporate as many whole brain techniques as I can in a lesson. THis week I have started something new I would like to share and get feedback on. I teach only English but am always looking for ways to augment my kids education beyond just teaching the language itself. This was my latest idea. The theme for the decoration in my classroom is question words. I have "Who, What Where When And Why" in big letters in different parts of the room surronded by pictures and words that represent answers to these questions. Around "Who" I have pictures of famous people from history- genghis khan, shakesphere, george washington ect. So this is what I have started doing- On Monday i choose a person (this week is King Henry the 8th) and I show the kids where the famous person is from on the map. I then substitue "Class' for the country the famous person is from and "yes" for the name of the person. So this week our "class-yes" is "England-Henry the 8th". On Monday I also give a bit of background about who the person is we will be using this week and try to draw that person into the lesson somehow. The unit we are currently on is "My house' so today we talked about wether or not King Henry had a toilet in his bathroom or a radio in livingroom. Any ideas about this tactic?

Tweeking the "Class/Yes" is always a hot topic and one that is the easiest to do. We can all agree that it is a long school year and we need to do things that change it up and make it fresh.

So yes you have some good ideas about using the "Class/Yes" to keep kids engaged in your lessons. Any of the core curriculum that your students need to know is a great thing to make into a "Class/Yes" response.
