Does anyone have a video where you're using the genius ladder? I'm a very visual person, and I think I need to see it in action to make it more successful in my room. It works in my head, but my kids aren't responding the way I'd hoped.

I'd love to see anyone's newer videos of anything WBT! I've watched all of the older ones. Just wondering if there have been any made since school started back this year.

Stay tuned bamagirl! I know that there are teachers getting ready to upload various lessons! I haven't seen any videos yet, on Genius ladder, but I am itching to get a few videos up and running!

Hello! I teach fifth grade and my grade level uses PROVE IT! everyday! The way we have implemented the strategy:

1. On morning assignment, which is a spiral review, for every multiple choice question, the students must prove the right answer, as well as, prove the other answers wrong.

2. On reading and math assessments, students must prove the answers right and wrong on the multiple choice questions.

3. In reading class, we have daily lesson rotations. On day 7, we have MAP prep and use PROVE IT! Students are in groups and each group is given a question with four answer choices. They work together to solve the problem. One team shares the answer and the other teams have to prove that team right or wrong.

What are some other ways that you use PROVE IT! in your classroom?

we use Prove it in the morning as a "warm up" I use the portion of the Envision math worksheet with multiple choice and my first graders have to prove the right answer, explain why the others are not correct.

We also use some old bench mark test questions, and the literature book the same way. We do ours as a group so they have the support of each other and we do yes/no way to add our own agreement or disagree.

I did the Genius Ladder today and it was a blast! The kids were super excited and engaged the whole time! I made up a paper with the Genius Ladder on it with lines for the kids to write on. After they would share their list of nouns with their neighbor, they had to wrte a blah sentence. Then after the teaching of the spicy sentence, they had to write their spicy sentence. After they finished with their Genius Paragraph, we circled up and shared from our blah sentence all the way to the genius paragraph.

I tried doing Prove It to replace our usual standardized test question review sessions, and my students actually said, "Can we just do the questions without playing that game?" Suuuuure.

Weirdos.

They love everything else, but they just didn't buy in to that one. I was kinda disappointed. I wanted to play the game.

Tiffany,

Thanks for reminding me about checking the YouTube site. I forget about it sometimes. The videos there always remind me of something I need to remember to do or something that I could do better.

I have one up too. It isn't as good as Biff's, but you can see it implemented in learning support. It is on my blog and YouTube.

A tweak I am working on with older learners I borrowed from Eric Mazur, a well known Harvard physics professor. Show the kids a PowerPoint slide or some such with a question, and three possible answers. Have the kids discuss which answer or answers are correct and have them prove their answer(s) to their partners. Check and see is both partners agree, or if one partner was able to convince the other partner or not. Check for understanding, and reveal the correct answer or answers.

So far it is working well, and drawing in the few kids who were reluctant initially with Prove it!

Jeff,

Thanks for sharing your tweeks to use with older students. Sometimes it can be hard to visualize how to use some of the WBT strategies with older students if they don't "buy into" the idea but this seems like a great idea!
