Once you have used gestures to introduce the basic meanings for your Whole Brain Vocabulary, don't forget to take the next step- connect the terms to form concepts.

For example, once I have taught the definitions for chemical reaction, reactants, and products with several repetitions over a couple of days so that the kids are familiar with what each Whole Brain Vocabulary definition is I take the next step toward higher order thinking by connecting the ideas.

"You have reactants (gesture for that term) BEFORE a Chemical reaction (gesture) and products AFTER (gesture) a chemical reaction."

I do this in front of the class and move and gesture to show the kids these terms in the same order they would read them in a chemical equation.

This way the students have built sight recognition for the meaning of the terms they have already learned based on the term's gesture, and they can more easily see how the terms are connected to one another.
