Cute posters! We use these gestures also, but we also use music and props when we introduce this skill. For connections, we use a plastic chain and play a part of the song "chain, chain, chain,"-Chain of fools. The kids love it . When the kids have a connection, they lock their figures like a chain and move them around in a circle. When I seee this, I stop and I tell the kids "someone has a connection" and we all sing together "chain, chain, chain". They LOVE it and it's just a little something extra!

Do you have gestures for Reciprocal Teaching: clarification, predict, summarize and generate questions? I just started teaching this group recently, and haven't figured out gestures for all 4 parts of the process. The ones I came up with were, Clarifying - looking through a magnifying glass, like Sherlock Holmes and, Generating Questions - shrug shoulders, palms up and raised eyebrows in expression of questioning. I'm trying to think of some more exciting movements for predicting and summarizing. Music is a great idea, especially since I'm working with 5th grade. Thanks for the inspiration!

Awesome gestures!

I love the song idea too! Will totally be trying that out! Connections is a hard concept for some kids to grasp, so I think linking the hands in a chain and singing, "chain, chain, chain" would be awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Keep me updated on how it goes! Also, for predicting I use a "glitter ball" and I move my hand around it like a fortune teller. That is the geture and we use the mirror with words with teach okay. When we introduce it we use the music theme song from "Pink Panther". Also, for summarizing I wear a cowboy hat and a jump rope as my lasso. I swing it in the air and introduce with the song "I should have been a cowboy". It's a country song and I don't have the exact title because my CD is at school. Let me know if you need more details. The kids love it. We then use mirror with words and teach okay. I also have graphic organizers that go along with each skill that the students use. For questioning I use a microphone as my prop and the theme song jepordy. Our school is centered around JOYFUL teaching and we use a bountiful amount of props, gestures, music, etc. Just let me know if you need anything else! I will be posted A LOT of math songs soon. Hope this helps.

Any good gestures out there for combining sentences? I'm trying to brainstorm some, but am at a loss right now. Maybe the weekend will help me out, but I thought I'd check in with all you other Whole Brain teachers to see if you had any ideas!

Love the visuals! That is a great way to reinforce the gestures with students. Do you maintain a library of these and display in your classroom throughout the year?

It truly has made a difference in our staff! The atmosphere here is OUTSTANDING! We currently have a few teachers including myself that present at grade level meetings, other schools, and the parish. We take a mixture of WBT, music, songs, foldables and combine it into one. We made T-shirts and everything! LOL! Our discipline throughout the school has decreased. We do not have NEARLY as many referrals and minor referrals as we used it. If the student's are engaged, they do not have time to misbehave! We are so excited of the difference WBT has made in our school. I'm so blessed to have been introduced to it as well as work in such a loving, joyful school! If you need any ideas just let me know! I'd be glad to share!!!!

That's so exciting! It sounds like you work in a wonderful building! Continue to keep everyone posted on how WBT works throughout your building and your wonderful songs that you've created too! They are so fun! How awesome that discipline has decreased! That makes for a much better learning environment.

Thanks,
Staci
