Using Mind Soccer for review is an effective way to review information we have learned in class. I also use it to introduce some new concepts that have not been discussed yet. I stumbled upon this as I was thinking on the fly about math questions. I was getting ready to teach the students about powers. During mind soccer I ask what was 2 to the 3rd power. Neither team answered correctly. I kept getting answers like 4 or 6. They were guessing. There was not a steal. I noticed the teams started talking about it to each other and tried to figure it out for the next time the question came up. The next time I asked what 2 to the 3rd power was they got it right. My class either looked it up or found a way to figure it out. The next week when I went over it in math class most of the class new it was 2X2X2 and equaled 8.

I review all my subjects with mind soccer. I often use vocabulary/spelling words. I use science concepts ie. describe the greenhouse effect. Socials Studies vocabulary- What were nomads? Review questions for my read aloud books. My students can't get enough mind soccer.

That sounds awesome! I am glad that you pointed out you let the kids look things up when they do not know. I let my kids look things up in their notes and dictionaries if necessary, but as the game progresses, I give them less time to do so once I feel that they should know the answer. Do you use gestures during mind soccer? I have not tried it yet, but I think that when I go back on track I am going to start asking silent questions with gestures and have the kids tell me what the vocabulary that matches is, or possibly the other way around, I say the concept and they have to respond with the appropriate gesture. I am predicting that this will be a nice addition for the quiet kids that don't like to yell out answers.

Angela you're so right...gestures with Mind Soccer! I can see that helping out the folks that may not like the loudness/craziness that happens in some classes...I won't mention who to protect the innocent.

I have waited to start some Mind Soccer this year, but reading the last two posts here get me all excited again, and it is now time to review.

Keep us posted tomsshop...great post.
