Hi everyone! I have discovered WBT this summer and I am thoroughly impressed! I would like to incorporate the strategy whole heartedly, but my concern is most schools around the area have connecting classes. Noise will be a huge factor in determining what parts of WBT I incorporate.
I realize that I can modify any of the WBT strategies, but one of the factors that make WBT a success is being able to discuss/celebrate which will get noisy. I know also that I can use the noise meter, but the students might not be sold on celebrating with 6 inch voices.
Any suggestions on how I can alter the strategies to account for the noise factor?
Thank you!

I have to admit - I can tolerate a much noisier class than a lot of my fellow teachers can. (I have 4 children and a constant houseful of friends). I have to really concentrate on keeping the noise level down.

We practice the Yadda Yadda scale ALOT. They love to pratice saying Yada Yada at whatever level I point to.

Pretty soon I can say "Class, If you can get your level to a 2 before I get to the scoreboard, you can earn a point. If you are not at a 2, I get a point."

If one person keeps the class from keeping their noise level, the Guff Counter works wonders.

Remind students that the volume and tone you say "class" and "teach" is the volume and tone they use for "yes" and "okay."
So you can do some loud ones and then practice some short ones. Also you may be surprised at how much they like to have a silent or quiet celebration. My middle schoolers use to think it was hilarious.
