Hello,
I am a middle school teacher, 7th grade language arts, and have been teaching 17 years.
Last year, I realized that I needed to make some changes in my classroom management program. I was also very concerned over the unmotivated students that are not interested in learning and the many disruptions occuring in my classes by students that were bored and disrespectful. I was desperate until I came accross Whole Brain Teaching which has changed not only my students, but has also had a profound change in my self-esteem as a teacher.I started the program this year and although I wanted to believe it was the answer to my prayers, I had my doubts that it would work.
The first thing I did was to send home letters to parents informing them that I was changing my classroom management program and adopting a program that would motivate their child to want to learn. I also let my administrators know that I had adopted a new classroom management program and invited them to visit my room.
Well, I had no visitors until a few weeks ago when my principal came into my room to check to see if I had my standard written on the board and was teaching that standard. Usually, my principal will only stay a few minutes but that day she never left my classrom until the class ended.
Liking the program and seeing the results are two different things. Last week, my students took their first benchmark test and scored the highest of any other classes on our campus. I cannot tell you how proud I am of my students. Last Friday, I had a pizza party to celebrate their accomplishments. My principal, vice-pricipal and some of my colleagues attended.
I needed to tell someone of my success that would understand so I am posting this message for anyone that may feel discouraged. Not only are my students motvated and wanting to learn more, but their teacher is just as motivated.
By the way, my principal just revealed to me that most of my students are/were behavior problems. Thanks for listening. Lois
