I am a former 3rd grade teacher in Texas who now works in local government but I would like to return to teaching.

Of course, this is not the best time or state in which to be looking for a job due to the economic situation here.

I would like to make myself a more appealing candidate, so I am trying to catch up on current teaching practices since I have been out of the classroom for over 6 years.

I learned about Whole Brain Teaching at A to Z Teacher Stuff. It looks like the perfect thing for me to talk about if I am asked about a discipline plan. Plus, it just looks better than what I was doing for classroom management in my last classroom.

Welcome back to the education world! WBT is a great management plan; however, it is so much more than that! Read up on the first steps and download the free Ebooks. The beauty of WBT is that it can really work in subbing. Most likely as you get back into the door, you may be subbing. Using class yes is a great attention getter. The scoreboard should keep them on task and you can reward them at the end of the day. Students will beg for you to sub! Good luck in what you decide to do. Keep osting to the forum. We ate always glad to help!

Penguinpc,
I am so happy to hear that you are a fan of WBT. I definitely think that a teacher implementing WBT would be a much more appealing candidate! The classroom management alone is off the charts!! I agree with Rebecca. Also, if you haven't already, youtube a few teaching sessions performed by the greats! I promise you will be delighted!

Hi Penguinpc!

First off, I would also like to say welcome back to the teaching profession! WBT has made a huge difference in my teaching style and the way my classroom runs. I agree with Heather and Rebecca that WBT would be very beneficial to you as a possible cadidate and also as a sub. I had subs last year that used it in my classroom through my instructions and utilizing class leaders, and they were so on board after that! Stay on the website and the forum and you'll find lots of great tips! Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks,
