TOPIC: Passing on Students from a WBT to a non-WBT-er

Passing on Students from a WBT to a non-WBT-er 8 months, 3 weeks ago #7892

My name is Jan and I have been using WBT for four years now. I am adding more things each year and getting better and better with it. I love it and teaching rules is so fun and exciting. I have already had several compliments from other teachers in my building who have walked by and saw the enthusiasm and whole class participation.

This however was too good NOT to share...

A fourth grade teacher came into my room and asked about a former student of mine. Her question was: "What is wrong with Jacob?"

I said, "Well he is a little odd, but a bright student and he is in Gifted and Talented."

She said, "Yes, but why does he talk to his hand? ... And the hand answers!!"

I gave a resounding ... "SOCKLESS HAND PUPPETS!!!"

Ha! This made my day!!

That is hilarious, Jan. Thanks for sharing! Kudos to you for doing WBT for 4 years. My only regret about WBT is that I wish I would have found it years ago! I love it to and so do the kids. Have a great year and keep sharing those great stories.

Jan,

That is a great story! Your former student will be able to help his new teacher learn some WBT strategies!

Thanks for sharing!

I found this forum while searching for info on how to deal with students who have already been in a WBT class - it seems like a significant portion of the activities rely on the anticipation and suspense of not knowing what's coming. Has anyone taught a class full of kids who have previously had a WBTeacher?

I haven't because I am the first one in my district to implement it. It sounds as though the students may be able to help you out on this one. Try out the first steps section of the homepage. Get going on your class rules, class-yes, and your scoreboard. Since they already know it, they should be able to "play" along very quickly. I think it would be interesting to get a group though who have been through it. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes!

Ewwww... Good question? I am wondering now. I don't think it would hinder the process though.
