One week in to WBT and I love it!! I got my start with some help from our Reading Coach! Now I am on this website non-stop! I really appreciate how everything is accessible, easy to follow, and free!!

Because I am so new, I may have missed something or not gotten to this part yet. I have introduced the Scoreboard and Class - Yes. Is the Scoreboard used everyday?? I am worried about coming up with rewards that the students won't get bored with or will work for!! Suggestions, Please!!

Yes, I use mine every day - with my 9th graders. I do More/Less HW, so they are always VERY motivated

Welcome to Whole Brain Teaching!

The scoreboard is used everyday, it's a great classroom motivator & can bring up the energy in a class that seems to have fallen asleep.

Here is the link to the article on the Scoreboard for 5-12 grades (www.wholebrainteaching.com/Whole-Brain-T...Scoreboard-Game.html). It is a great informational piece to give you some of the basic information you may need.

Also, here is a link to the 16 scoreboard variations that Coach B has come up with. (www.wholebrainteaching.com/Whole-Brain-T...-The-Scoreboard.html)

I would say, as far as rewards, keep it simple. Remember...it's a long year and you want to keep rewards small to start so you have room to grow as the year progresses!

I can't wait to hear all about your first year with WBT.

What grade do you teach?

Here are some great and easy rewards:

1 minute extra recess
1 minute game time
1 minute music listening

Brainstorm with the class some ideas and usually you can tell what would most motivate them. I play three times per day - before recess, lunch and center time. Lunch and recess usually involve a game reward. The reward at the end of the day is center time.

Great ideas, might I add:

One song the class loves
One page or assignment less homework
Quiet riot cheer
Going to lunch early, first in line

Have fun, the possibilities are endless.

Hello!

Absolutely, ask your students to brainstorm the list for what would motivate them and what they would like to work towards to earn on the scoreboard. Also, do not forget to put Mind Soccer to the side of the scoreboard and ten stars earns a Mind Soccer game!

Involve your students and the motivation soars! Have fun!

Welcome to WBT! I'm so excited that you're trying it out, and loving it so far! I guarantee you will see a huge difference in your classroom and in academics if you stick with it! Everyone has given you such great advice, I don't know that I have much to add. My kiddos love Mind Soccer! If they win the scoreboard, that's what they beg to do as their "reward." I usually try to tie their scoreboard wins to some type of academic game. I teach 3rd grade, but we only get one recess a day, and it's after lunch. I can't really offer extra recess time, but I can take them outside for an outdoor learning activity if they win the scoreboard. Even a minute of "talk" time is a huge reward and something your 6th graders would probably like. Keep posting and make sure to post if you have questions! They'll get answered. There is a great support system of WBT on the forum!

Thanks,
