Hi all! I am starting my 4th year as a dedicated ESL teacher in a large urban district and 3rd year (?) trying to get better at implementing WBT.
I have just been told that in addition to teaching two blocks of about 84 minutes of ELA/Reading to ESL only students, I will be also teaching one period (42 minutes) of 'regular' 7th grade English - BUT the class will likely include students who will see me (or have already seen me) at some point in the day. Now, my question is this; these 'regular' students would benefit from the same strategies/techniques/and lessons I will be giving my ESL students - WBT components of classroom rules, the Writing Game, the first 11 day Writing Plans already released, etc.. Should I be substituting another read aloud book to avoid repetition for the handful of students who have (will have) already heard it, or should I just not worry about it, but talk to them privately about how they will be the 'secret experts' in the room? Just wondering how to handle this very unique situation..... Thanks in advance!
