Do the picture cards for the behavior chart already exist somewhere or should I make my own? I want to use Andrea's classroom rules, do the picture cards or posters exist for her rules?

Hi =) I am so glad you asked. I attended my first confernence with Jay in MN yesterday and kept looking for those pictures last night. I couldn't find them either. I would love to know as well if they are already created and written down.

Re:Behavior chart picture cards 2 years, 9 months ago #1789

Is Andrea going to be able to put her "How I Start ..." for Kindergarten on this website? That would make a lot of Kindergarten teachers grateful and extremely happy. She was kind enough to say she would send it in an email. She must have been deluged with emails because I have not received anything. If it is a handout she does at workshops, those of us who can't make it to the workshops would LOVE to be allowed to have it. I apologize for being so needy. I am just insecure about starting this in a school where I'm the only one who's going to try to do Whole Brain techniques. And I also want to know if the Behavior Chart Pictures are available to download. Thank you for all the videos and downloads that are now available and I don't want to seem greedy but I have already been warned I am getting an immature, rowdy bunch of little ones for the coming year - help!

I made some posters using the "k rules" last night. I tried to make them similar to Jay's but didn't have the same border... Maybe they will help some=) I still need to make the little versions for the pocket chart but it is a start=) Maybe this will help!
sorry- I will have to work on saving a different way... it is too large and can not attach. I will hopefully figure that out and attach later today!

okay- I hope this works...I tried saving as a pdf, and as winzip and those didn't work. Try going to this website and it should open a pdf of the charts.

Thank you for the wonderful rules pictures. I changed #4 to Make Smart Choices. I guess I can use the older kids version for that one. I think it's important and far reaching. Raising your hand to speak hasn't been as much of a problem in kinder.
What do you think? I will absolutely use your graphics. Thanks again!

I love your idea of changing #4. I really toiled with the hand raising as I do like them to just shout out ideas sometimes too and thought they may get confused with this new rule... so I am so glad you mentioned just tossing it out=) I will make a new #4 with the brain so it matches the borders etc. It helps to talk it through with someone=)

**I just updated the link from before- it has the new #4 - make smart choices poster too=)

Fantastic! I guess we need to stay with the five rules. This is all new to me, but I'm anxious to try it. I love the "Keep your dear teacher happy" so I thought maybe I'd incorporate that somehow, but maybe not in the rules. I really appreciate your feedback and techie support. Let me know your plans.

I agree- I like the concept of keeping the teacher happy but I was leary to make it a rule when I don't want it to be about me. I want the choices they make be because that is the right thing to do and not to please me... and making smart choices incorporates so much more=) - Just in case you didn't see below because I edited it at the same time as your posting- I did add the new #4 to the website link=)

I too am brand new to all of this so I am learning with you! The MN conference I just attended was wonderful and really sparked my interest=)

My rules are now ready!! Thanks to you.... Do you plan to begin on the first day with the Class Yes and the rules? What did they suggest at the conference? Was it specific for kindergarten? Our first day is usually one big interruption with new students every five minutes, crying, etc. I don't know how much continuity I will have. But I really want to work on the micro lessons. I think there will be more student engagement, especially with the less prepared kids. I posted a question about the stars on the scoreboard but haven't had an answer. Do you know what they are for?

Honestly, I am not sure when I will start class yes. I am expecting our second baby on Sept. 17th and we start Sept. 8th...so who knows what is going to happen. I am just getting everything ready so when I am or when I can explain all of this to my sub- we will be ready=) I think it would be ideal to start that with day 1- so that they become acustom to it and it will be a wonderful way to grab their attention immediately etc.... not sure

At the conf. we didn't get into when you should start it and those kinds of logistics. It was more introduction to what all the components are etc.

I don't know anything about the stars on the scoreboard- unless it is a variation of the tallies Jay talked about. I am still reading and learning as I go... sorry....

Congratulations! You will have a busy September. I'm in Bakersfield, and we start August 24. Maybe you can coach me through the first couple of weeks and then I'll coach you...through the newborn stage!

Thanks=))

I hope this thread will help us all through the first days =))

What are you going to call the "Practice Card System"? I made up the pocket chart pics today that fit the pocket chart I have...but I am not sure what to call it - or put on the top of my pocket chart etc. Do I just put "Practice Cards"? - any other neat names someone can think of?

This system is to be used with the scoreboard game (maybe that is also the stars you were referring to?)

I have a small pocket chart "Who is here today?" by my easel that the kids put their name card in as part of "signing in" and for name recognition, etc. I am thinking about just using that and tucking the rule reminder in front of the name so they can practice when everyone else goes out for recess.

Consider this as an alternative...
In kindergarten on my campus, one teacher goes out to recess duty and the other teacher has lunch duty. I have my students practice the rule that was broken on the playground for 1 minute and then they can go play. This way, the other students can play and it does not interfere with recess time. Also, if at recess time my students have more happy's than saddies they can earn 1 extra minute of recess. They line up, we have a 1 second party and clap our hands and put them in the air and yell, "WooHoo." They get to play after I say, "Play" and they say, "okay."

Now, if they have more saddy's than happy's...We all line up against the wall at recess and practice as a class, the five rules. After 1 minute they can go play. Students that are not saying the rules correctly, or forgetting to use gestures can stay back and practice with you for an additional minute.

As you move throught the levels of the system...your minute increments increase, as well.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the input. I can make that work! Do you do the weekly stars? I don't know what they are for, but Andrea was counting them on the video.

My understanding of the weekly stars are that they are for an additional motivator...A Biggie...
If they end the day with more happy's than saddy's they earn a star.
After they earn the number of stars that was decided on (5, 10, 15 and so on)...they have earned that Biggie. You may want to consider free Biggies! (extra time at recess...the BIG kids playground...extra center time and the like) We spend too much money as educators as it is;) ....Hope this was helpful!

If possible could you post the pocket chart rules cards that match the posters you posted earlier?
