My kinders have struggled with remembering the names of the three dimensional shapes so I invented this twist: I have some mulit-colored foam three dimensional shapes. Instead of saying "Class!" I say the color of the shape and they have to look at me to see what shape I am holding and they repeat back with the name of the shape. For example: I might say "Red!" they look at me to see that I am holding a sphere, so they say "Sphere!" I may chant back "REd! REd!" and they say "Sphere! Sphere!" The great thing is that they HAVE to look at me to see what I am holding (thus dispelling the mid-year lull where they don't turn to look at you when they respond to the CLass! Yes!) AND we are reviewing shapes! I am going to use this to review all sorts of things next year. Really you can use it for any review. I like the part where they have to look at me so I think when adding comes up I am going to do something where I say something like "4 plus" (and they have to look at me to see what number I am holding) and they might say "2" and I'll say "equals" and they say "6". Something like that. Anyway, it has worked for shapes so I can't wait to see the potential in other areas!!!
