At the conference this summer they showed us an alternative to frownie and smiley. I can't find it or remember it. It had a mountian and a car, but I can't figure it out. I need something new to get through the month of December. You know how those little ones loose their minds at Christmas.THANKS

Laura, it is called "mystery road". If you type these words in the search box you can find older posts about it.
Hope this helps.

Laura,
For the scoreboard, you can also draw a character for the smilie and frownie, such as Santa or the Grinch, and the response can be "Jingle Bells" or "Bah Humbug".
Another way to spice it up is to create a second tier on your scoreboard for a specific rule that your students are really struggling with. For example, if they are continually shouting out, write Rule 2 under your regular scoreboard, and they can earn points when the class is specifically following that rule. It gets them to zero in on the one thing that is out of control.
Keep the routine and procedures consistent, even through the craziness of the holidays. Bring some fun in, and kep them engaged.
It truly is a wonderful time of year!

Deb,

Great tips!

One of our teachers uses Patrick Star (from Spongebob) for her and Squidward for her .
