I start WBT really late in the year but it is still great!... The pre-k Head start class I have love class-yes!!! I really like the score board too.... the children/class get to re-tell me the rule. They need a lot of review...but the gesters make it fun! I think my favorite is "make the teacher happy". I have even heard students' tell each other, " that's not going to make her happy" 'eyes and Hands" is a good one too. they all try to open their eyes as wide as they can and listen. It is great!!!

Sounds like those Pre-K kiddos are lucky to have you:)! I'm glad you said "review"~ that is the key for success with WBT~ we have to remember to "rehearse" NOT scold! And of course, as I learned when I moved down from 3rd to Kinder~ we need lots of opportunities to rehearse. The blessing is that the "rehearsal" times get shorter and shorter~ so we may just need a "mini~review", rather than a "re~teach". And of course those little ones love change it up with varied voices and gestures. Glad you're having fun~ the best part is that they are too and they are ENGAGED!!! Too cool! Have fun starting off your year with WBT!!!

I love hearing teachers being so excited about WBT! I started late in the school year too, but was amazed at how quickly the children picked it up. I especially liked the class-yes, since it shifts the students' focus to me right away, even in the hustle and the bustle of a rowdy cafeteria!!

There is one thing I learned during the conference that I wanted to point out, and you may already know this: the fifth rule is "KEEP your dear teacher happy," not "Make..." It is only a one word difference, but the difference in meaning is pretty big. But it makes a lot of sense! It is not the childrens' job to "make" us happy. We are responsible for our own choices in being happy or not.

I'm sure you were well aware of that concept, as was I. It just never dawned on me since it had become so routine to say "Make your dear teacher happy," right after saying "Make smart choices"!
I am so glad that I (and a bunch of us) made the mistake of saying "Make" instead of "Keep" during the conference and got corrected! LOL I hope this helped you in the same way!
