Hello All

I am about to embark on my second year teaching middle school in a challenging environment. I am going to implement WBT.

Last year I used a "Consequence Ladder" to address rules violations. This year, I will use the scoreboard and have students repeat a rule when it is broken to encourage positive solidarity in the class. However, I also plan on continuing with my Consequence Ladder.

Here's an example. A student talks out of turn. I say "Rule 2!" The class follows the procedure. I give them a point on the scoreboard. However, I also give the violator a consequence (which is private / post-class) as a further deterrent. There is no scolding, but it is understood that violators receive a personal consequence in addition to the WBT procedure.

any thoughts?

Thank you!

I am not sure if what we do for primary kids would work, have you checked out the E download practice cards, or used I dependants or the agreement bridge. I have a sense from other post that I see that mixing WBT with other systems does not have the educational success. I hope that other teachers will help you here.

You can actually mix WBT and other systems, just keep in mind that the more complex you get the harder to keep up with it is, and the more difficult it becomes to enforce consistently. I think the consequences ladder will work fine, especially if it is keeping you close to what others are using, especially if you are on a team for discipline.

Thanks very much for your thoughts - and, by the way, we are indeed implementing a school wide behavior plan, which is why I am planning on integrating it into WBT.
