TOPIC: WBT for a sub

WBT for a sub 9 months ago #7715

Since I will be subbing in middle and high schools, how would you incorporate WBT for a teacher that is a sub?

Hello! As a sub, I would definitely go into the classrooms, ready to use class-yes(attention getter), hands and eyes (focuser), and the scoreboard. If teachers that you are subbing for leave you lesson plans to teach, the 5 step lesson format would definitely help you teach the lesson, as well as keep the students on-task, engaged, and having fun. Have the students play for talking time if they win on the scoreboard for the last few minutes of class.

5 step lesson format for all lessons:

1. Question: ask a question
2. Answer: answer the question
3. Expand: provide details and examples
4. Test: play yes/no way(whole group) and QT(quick test: silently, eyes covered, thumbs up/thumbs down)
5. Critical thinking: written response

After steps 1-3, students will use the teach/okay with their partner. This lesson format will allow teachers to easily chunk lessons, incorporate brain toys, and there will be more time on task for student learning!

Have fun! Laura Caisse

Deb Weigel recently posted WBT teachers sub plans. You might use them for yourself and apply them to any lesson you give while being a sub:cheer:
