Is anyone using this beyond self-contained classes? I am really trying to figure out how to make this work for my 6th grade Science and Social Studies classes!

I think you could take the idea and adapt it, by moving up Bloom's. Social Studies it could be: write a paragraph summarizing your knowledge (comprehension), one star; write 2 paragraphs, one summarizing your knowledge and one analyzing the content (analysis), two stars, make this 2 paragraphs sharp looking, 3 stars.

Any other input on that idea?

I think that is a good idea - I was thinking....since I have to deal with grades.....of making one star homework like a maximum of 75 points, 2 stars 85, 3 stars 95, 4 stars 100.

We keep interactive notebooks and we have been gluing in readings and vocabulary to use for Super Speed - so far they LOVE that! I have lots of timers handy for checking!

Keep the ideas coming!

We got to play 5 minutes of mind soccer yesterday! They loved it. They had earned 1 minute for the UHM, 2 minutes for besting our total number of homework points in a week, and two minutes for beating my scoreboard every day this week! I really have an awesome bunch, which is awesome considering the large number of students, the wide range of disabilities, and the number of personal care aids. I am sure you did it right Annette!

Another idea for adding to your homework to make it higher would be telling them to complete a Venn diagram comparing what you learned today with something else you have covered throughout the year. This way they have done a little review and moved to higher levels of thinking. This may also inspire some kids who don't like to write too much to try some extra homework.
