I have a class with six autistic kids at varying spots on the spectrum, and about four or five additional "other health impaired" kids in my 8th grade science classroom of twenty six kids.

Today an occupational therapist came in with the teacher who has these austic kids in a separate setting part of the day. The therapist was there to observe two of the autistic kids.

We went through our regular stuff. I noticed she was smiling a lot. When the kids were all busy working on partner work I wandered over and asked her what she thought. She said this was the funnest class she had observed in years! She also commented that this approach was so perfect for these guys!

Cool.

That's awesome Jeff! I have had similar replies with people from the outside. I like it when the high school students come over to my room and they say that they wish I was their teacher or ask if they could come back to elementary.

It really is the best program for kids with special needs of all kinds. I've found the focus on oral writing helps immensely for students with writing disabilities, because these disabilities often stem from the fact that they are not thinking in grammatically correct or full-sentence ways, and the multi-modal approach ensures you're hitting everyone's strength. It's really the thing that saved me my first year teaching Resource.

Sometimes, I need to explain to people that WBT is not Just for learning support or special needs. They see me doing it and assume that it is an "adapted" program. I need to explain that it can be used for anyone at any level. I love to see the benefits the program has had on my autistic student.

I teach Second Grade and have two Sp. Ed. students in my class. They are doing a great job with
the Super Speed 100 sight words. I'm very pleased with the improvement in classroom engagement by all of my students, but especially the Sp. Ed. students.
WBT ROCKS!
