TOPIC: moderatesevere

moderatesevere 3 months ago #9641

I attended a quick overview and the program seems perfect for my 2nd and 3rd grade students with moderate/severe disabilities.
However, they have been subject to "repeat," too often and they echo whatever i say.

Any ideas?

HI! I also had some of my students doing this. Try bringing in a mirror to show them that a mirror copies gestures but then show them that you are talking to the mirror and the mirror is not echoing because it cant do that. Practice 'mirror' with them for a while and use'repeats' in your lesson sporadically. When it wont be too many, they'll probably distiguish it easier from one another. As you go on, continue adding a few more repeats until they learn to look out for it and do it automatically. Good Luck!!!

That is a great idea using a mirror to demonstrate Mirror! Intro and Practice of new techniques and concepts is important for all learners. Using a concrete object to help reinforce that is powerful! Ten Finger Rolling Woooo to you!

I also like the idea of using a real mirror. I do use echo at times, but the students need to learn to differentiate between mirror and mirror/echo or mirrors and words. This could be a great strategy. I will have to remember that for next year. I believe I have a few lower functioning students than this year coming up.
