Post here with your questions! My husband and I are a power teaching team in the Maryville/Alcoa area. We'd love to network with you!

Hello! I teach fifth grade language arts at an intermediate school. My husband teaches high school math. Power teaching has rocked our worlds! We are slowly trying to train this area! Our next training is on Thursday at a local elementary school here in Maryville. The word is spreading!

I am in Clarksvile and just discovered this by chance watching youtube for the first time. I know I am behind. Actually my old computer was a dinosaur and I never could watch anything on it. I am using a higher tech computer now and wow I got youtube!
I hope to use these strategies next year. It looks like fun!

I would encourage you to start this year. You will be surprised by how it helps, especially at the end of the year when behavior seems to be harder to manage (without Power Teaching). This is the perfect time of year to try things out and see how it works. You can modify and make changes so that next year things can run the way that works best for you. I would encourage you to try the First Steps and look at Super Speed Math and Reading.
Power Teaching can really start any time of the year. Just watch Chris Biffle's Introduction to Power Teaching Lesson 1.

Hey Jennifer!

So glad you found PT! I would also encourage you to try it out this year. I 'found' PT last year in April. I went to school and implemented it, and the students LOVED it! At least try out the Class-Yes and the Teach-Okay. I found that it was great to use the Teach-Okay for our TCAP reviews. It made it much more interesting when the students were teaching each other than just listening to me review with them! Let us know how it goes!

Hi Joni,
I know it's a long shot, however, are there any training sessions going on the first week of April? I seem to be alone in Michigan at this point and my family and I will be vacationing in your lovely state in the Sevierville area and would like the chance to network and see a PT professional in action.
Please let me know what you think,
Matt

Matt,

Unfortunately, there are no seminars then, but I'd be HAPPY for you to come and observe in my classroom if you could work it in. I am in Maryville, which is about 45 min. from Sevierville. What grade do you teach? My husband would welcome you into his classroom as well if you were interested. He teaches high school. Let me know if you're interested, and we'll work something out!

Thanks again,
Matt

What grade do you teach? Would you be able to handle another observer when the one from Michigan came? I live in Chatt., but work in N. GA and am not that far from Maryville I think. Would that be possible if I could work it out?

Thanks,
Lori

That would be fine! The person from MI ended up not getting to come. I am in Maryville, which is about 15 miles south of Knoxville. Just let me know. We are doing our TCAP testing this week, so you wouldn't see much teaching this week. Next week are busy with field trips and orientation the first part of the week. What time frame did you have in mind? BTW, I teach 5th grade language arts.

Thanks. Actually, I also have another teacher interested in accompanying me if that would be okay. Wednesday, May 6th would be the best day for us, but Thursday is a possiblity as well. If neither of these days work for you, then maybe you could suggest the ones best for you.

Wednesday, May 6 would be fine! My first class starts at 8:30. How long did you want to stay? Are you only interested in fifth grade, or would you want to see other grades? My husband teaches high school, and would love for you to visit his classroom as well if you'd like. Just let me know!

Both of us are elementary teachers so high school would not be necessary. I wish I knew some high school teachers so I could tell them about this. Are there other elementary grades in your school that do PT? Both of us are special ed teachers and work with many grade levels. We do go into the classroom and work with the regular kids as well, so seeing it in a regular classroom will be of benefit. I don't imagine we could get there by 8:30. We probably woudn't get there until 9:00 or so. By the way, what is the address of the school so I can get directions? Thanks a lot.

I've been teaching 25 years. I 've only been practicing with my kids three weeks. We love it!..My only question is why didn't someone do this 25 years ago?

I do need to get directions to your school,or at least the address so I can mapquest it. We would probably get there around 9:30, and I would have to leave about 2. I'm looking forward to seeing power teaching in action.
